About Us
Founded In 2020
HomeZero Collective began in 2020 as a not-for-profit organization with a mission to make deep energy retrofits more accessible to entire neighbourhoods. In 2025, recognizing the scale of the work ahead, we transitioned to a for-profit entity to attract private investment. This shift allows us to scale up our program and meet the significant demand for community-level retrofit solutions.
Our model is built on a unique neighbourhood approach to clean energy retrofits. By moving forward as a collective, participants benefit from lower costs, faster delivery, and consistent quality assurance. Even better—our team handles all the coordination, so homeowners can focus on enjoying the results.
With support from the Green Municipal Fund, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), and BC Hydro we successfully completed a pilot project in 2024. Eleven homes across two Vernon neighbourhoods were retrofitted, providing invaluable lessons and proof of what’s possible when communities work together.
Building on that momentum, we are now in a community engagement phase that will bring deep energy retrofits to 500 homes throughout the Okanagan over the next three years. This is just the beginning. Our ambition is not only to create a lower-carbon future here at home but also to establish a replicable roadmap for other communities across Canada to follow.
